Uganda Coalition for Sustainable Development (UCSD)

UCSD’s Vision is of humanity sharing the resources of our planet in a sustainable manner, guided by the principles of universal justice as set in Rio and subsequent summits.

The mission is to contribute to sustainable development through follow up of the Johannesburg summit outcomes and subsequent global declarations in Uganda.

Vision and work in relation to the Global Forum

UCSD's main activities are:

  • organising dialogues on sustainable development issues at national, regional and international level
  • organising  and /or join advocacy work to promote sustainable development principles at national, regional and international levels
  • training, capacity building, awareness creation and action research to enhance understanding of sustainable development issues, challenges and opportunities
  • promoting sustainable development at local levels and beyond through members’ efforts.

UCSD supports issue-based collective knowledge on national sustainable development policy-making among others.

In this regard, UCSD joins other members of the Global Forum for National SDG Advisory Bodies to call for inclusive participation of stakeholders to deliver transitions across all the SDGs: (1) food systems, (2) energy transition, (3) sustainable building and transportation, (4) circular economies, (5) human well-being and capabilities and (6) pollution-free environment.

Bringing together voices from different sections of society

UCSD’s key areas of focus are climate change and energy; sustainable agriculture; sustainable socioeconomic development; integrated freshwater management, biodiversity and conservation.

UCSD being a membership organisation is also a member of the Uganda 2030 Agenda CSO Core reference Group hosted by Uganda National NGO Forum; Chair - INFORSE East Africa & Renewable Energy CSOs Network (Uganda).

Our interest is on pro-poor sustainable development with  a focus on access to clean water and sanitation (SDG6); gender equality (SDG5); affordable and clean energy (SDG7); responsible consumption and production (SDG12); climate action (SDG13);  life on land (SDG15).
