Maison de la Société Civile ( MdSC)
Maison de la Société Civile is an apolitical and a non-profit association created in 2008. It was created in response to the need to actively build the capacity of Beninese CSOs to participate credibly and effectively in Benin's development.
Our mission is "to mobilize and federate all Beninese civil society organisations (CSOs), and to seek the necessary means to contribute to development actions that can improve the quality of CSO intervention in the lives of citizens".
Our vision is to contribute to a society in which non-governmental actors in general, and CSOs, participate in processes of dialogue with the state for the definition, implementation and monitoring-evaluation of development programmes and policies.
Our main activities are (i) institutional and organizational capacity building for CSOs (ii) information and communication (iii) access to funding (iv) promotion of synergy and partnership development.
Vision and work in relation to the Global Forum
MdSC works to strengthen the capacity of CSOs, which is cross-cutting for all development themes linked to the SDGs. In other words, MdSC provides relevant and useful information and technical/thematic training to CSOs, monitoring and evaluation of public policies targetting communes), policies on dialogue, fostering partnership and elaborating on a parallel report on the implementation of the SDGs.
Bringing together voices from different sections of society
MdSC has tools for policy dialogue consisting of an integrating framework and thematic pools whichstrengthens CSOs through thematic pools in line with the 2030 agenda. A thematic pool is a group of CSOs from the same sector whose purpose is to rally common reflection and/or mutual enrichment, support, and training. More than 2,000 Beninese CSOs are signed up to the eight thematic pools.
MdSC supports the organization of citizen assessments on SDGs and dialogues from local up to national level. These actions bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including citizens, service providers and political and administrative authorities.
