Institute for Development Policy (INDEP)

INDEP is a think tank and an advocacy centre that provides independent research-based policy solutions.

Established in 2011 as an association of analysts, researchers and civil society activists, INDEP looks at regional policies, aiming to guide countries of South-East Europe on their path to Euro-Atlantic integration. In Kosovo, where it is based, the institute has a special focus on strengthening democratic governance and plays the role of public policy watchdog.

The work of INDEP is guided by the fundamental principles of transparency and accountability. The institute promotes active citizenship and participation in governance, as well as checks and balances between democratically elected institutions.

Vision and work in relation to the Global Forum

INDEP aligns closely with the shared common vision and work of the Global Forum towards a sustainable future for the planet. Our organization recognizes the importance of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) both nationally and globally. We provide 'compass' function, acting as aplatform that fosters consensus-building and social acceptance of sustainable development strategies.

INDEP's core mandate is to generate independent research-based policy solutions. By conducting rigorous analysis and research, we aim to guide countries in the Western Balkans particularly Kosovo, on their path towards the implementation of 2030 Agenda.

Apart from research and policy analysis, INDEP, is the co-ordinator of Kosovo Sustainable Development Week, a collaborative initiative involving the Kosovo Government, the Municipality of Prishtina, the EU Special Representative Office, and the German Government through GIZ, that, actively promotes sustainable development in Kosovo. Through this platform, we engage all sectors of society, including government, civil society, and private sector stakeholders, to collectively find solutions and develop strategies for sustainable development.

Bringing together voices from different sections of society

INDEP is committed to ensuring that diverse voices from different sections of society are heard and included in the work we carry out to promote the SDGs.

We actively engage with various stakeholders, including community organizations, civil society groups, businesses, and government institutions, to foster a multi-sectoral approach towards sustainable development.

Our collaboration with the National Council for Sustainable Development in Kosovo serves as a key platform for engaging with diverse stakeholders. Through this partnership, we facilitate dialogues, consultations, and workshops to gather input and perspectives from representatives of different sectors. This allows us to incorporate a wide range of viewpoints into our research, policy recommendations, and advocacy efforts.

Furthermore, we work closely with municipalities to ensure local voices and concerns are considered. By organising community-level events, awareness campaigns, and capacity-building workshops, we actively involve citizens in discussions on sustainable development and the SDGs. This grassroots engagement enables us to better understand local priorities and challenges, and to develop targeted strategies that reflect the needs of different communities.
