Global Forum at HLPF 2025

The annual High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is an important reference point for the Global Forum network. As the central United Nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs, it provides Global Forum members, along with the many fellow global stakeholders, an opportunity to take stock of progress, both individually and collectively .

This year, the Global Forum organised two events at HLPF. The first, a VNR lab entitled Shrinking civic space - practical guidance for bridging the divide between civil society and government examined country experiences and strategies for strengthening connections between civil society and government. The challenges were vividly illustrated by Global Forum members, who shared insights from several VNR-presenting countries. Additionally, the Global Forum ran a side event  which brought together speakers from four Global Forum member countries—three of which presented VNRs during HLPF—to reflect on the extent to which their most recent reviews were able to adopt an inclusive, whole-of-society approach. As always, we are grateful to our Global Forum panel members who generously contributed their time, expertise, and perspectives.
