Vision and work in relation to the Global Forum

The Commission functions as a forum for broad-based societal discussion on best practices to implement Agenda2030 and achieve the SDGs. Its members form a network and through their own networks, the Commission is a network of networks that co-operates to speed up a systemic sustainability transformation.

The Commission’s work is supported by Agenda2030 Youth Group and the Sustainability expert panel. Both of them participate in the Commission’s meetings and activities.

The strategy of the Commission: "A prosperous and globally responsible Finland that protects the carrying capacity of nature", is following the compass of the SDGs of Agenda2030 but goes beyond them by offering a framework of transformation through six systems based on societal areas of transformation. The global dimension is taken into account as well as among the cross cutting principles of implementation.

Bringing together voices from different sections of society

The Commission's key actors, bring insights from their own networks and learn new ideas to take back. It takes part in societal debates by writing to media as well as by organising events. In addition it hosts an online tool (external link, opens in a new window) that offers easy access to all kinds of actors to get engaged in sustainability work through practical commitments. More than 3000 commitments have been made to date.  The Commission also has a secretariat that functions as the ‘SD-node’ for the Government by bringing ministries together to discuss cross-cutting sustainability issues and supporting the government in the implementation of the Agenda2030.
