National Planning Department of Colombia (DNP)
The National Planning Department (DNP in Spanish) is the National Government's think tank that coordinates, articulates, and supports the country's short, medium, and long-term planning, and guides the public policy cycle and the prioritization of investment resources.
The DNP's vision is to be an entity that will effectively influence the sustainable development of the country through the optimization of planning, innovation, and public investment. Its main objectives are: i) Coordinate the design of plans, policies and programs that effectively address sectoral and territorial needs; ii) Design and implement strategies to improve the quality of public investment; iii) Strengthen the technical capacities of the sectors and territories that promote productivity, competitiveness, sustainability, and equity.
Vision and work in relation to the Global Forum
The National Development Department serves as the technical secretariat of the SDG Commission, which is a high-level instance in charge of ruling the SDG implementation in Colombia. This instance, consisting of seven public offices, is responsible for articulating all the public initiatives related to the SDGs. Throughout the SDG Commission Technical Secretariat, Colombia has developed several projects and initiatives to follow and comply with the guidelines established in the SDG National Implementation Strategy.
This group monitors the proper implementation of the sustainable development goals at the national level, generating coordination with other government entities responsible for reporting information on the progress of the agenda, as well as involvement with non-governmental actors. For the Government of Colombia, the 2030 Agenda is a key opportunity to generate transformations and give political impetus to issues of interest at the international, national and local levels that will improve the quality of life of all Colombians.
Bringing together voices from different sections of society
In 2018, Colombia issued the National Strategy to enhance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. It is a public policy document that contains a comprehensive monitoring mechanism which establishes the indicators and targets used to evaluate the Colombian performance towards the SDGs implementation. One of the lines of this document is focused on the involvement of non-governmental actors in the implementation of the country's 2030 Agenda, opening the space for the participation of academia, the private sector, organized civil society, international organizations, and local governments. Currently, we have a multi-stakeholder platform where these actors participate and additionally, there is a web platform for private sector reporting called the SDG-Corporate tracker.
