Checklist: How national governments can promote partnerships

This checklist provides suggestions for government partners on what they can do to promote multi-stakeholder partnerships for the SDGs, and practical ideas as to how they can do this.

Further information

The checklist will be useful to Global Forum members and others who have an advisory role to government, as well as SDG Units and other similar agencies within the public sector that have a mandate to promote multi-stakeholder partnerships to make government plans, policies and implementation of the SDGs reflect the needs and experiences of the whole of society.

The content has been compiled from interviews and a survey of Global Forum members and key informants from other similar organisations. It reflects their experience promoting national-level multi-stakeholder engagement in government planning, implementation and reporting of the SDGs.

The checklist is also featured as an 'in practice' example in the Unite to Ignite report launched at the SDG Summit in 2023.
