Useful materials for SDG advisory bodies

Many members of the Global Forum take the form of multi-stakeholder partnerships. The Knowledge Centre of The Partnering Initiative, acting as the secretariat of the Global Forum, offers a range of valuable resources for the network’s members. The following are some examples that will be particularly useful to members of the Global Forum, and other such multi-stakeholder initiatives that are advising their national governments on the SDGs.

The SDG Partnership Guidebook is a practical guide to building high impact multi-stakeholder partnerships for the SDGs. It provides guidance on how to build robust, effective collaborations, from initial stakeholder engagement to partnership review.

This guide explains the added value of working in partnerships. It provides a process and tools to help maximise value for all partners and stakeholders in collaboration, helping users to define ‘partnership value’, why it is important and how it can be maximised relative to the costs and difficulties of partnering.

Partnership Platforms for the SDGs: Learning from practice

Platforms can be a very useful type of partnership to convene stakeholders around national sustainability challenges, and to systematically catalyse other partnerships for the SDGs.  This report provides a partnership platform typology, to help provide a shared basis for knowledge and experience exchange. It also shares some useful ideas that can help partnership platforms to develop and increase their impact.

Unleashing the power of business: A practical ‘Roadmap’ to systematically engage business as a partner in national development

Many Global Forum members report having difficulty with engaging business in their activities.  This practical roadmap sets out a systematic approach to engaging with business as a partner in development.  The report builds on many years of practice and experience in making partnerships happen on the ground.  Building on a desk review, it draws on interviews and a survey with over 100 partnership experts, and benefits from an extensive online consultation and detailed written feedback on a working draft from 14 organisations.

Supporting effective collaboration

The Partnering Initiative has built an expanding set of partnering tools to support effective collaboration throughout the partnering lifecycle. From designing and building to managing, reviewing, and moving on, these tools and frameworks aim to facilitate the key steps and decisions of the partnering process.
